Mission Viejo highlight
Master-planned community known for lakes
Mission Viejo is one of the largest single master-planned communities built in the United States, centered around the man-made Lake Mission Viejo.

Lake Mission Viejo was built between 1975 and 1978 across Oso Creek as the centerpiece of the planned community. The earthen dam stands nearly 130 feet high and stretches almost a mile. The finished lake contains 124 acres of water at its surface with a maximum depth of 70 feet and a shoreline of just over three miles. The construction was completed in 1978 and dedicated to residents who lived within the master-planned community.
The lake operates as a private recreational facility for Mission Viejo residents, featuring two main beaches for swimming, boat rentals including rowboats, sailboats, pedal boats, kayaks and party boats, and regularly stocked fishing for trout, catfish, bass, tilapia and sunfish. Summer concert series, movie nights, volleyball tournaments and youth camps take place along the shoreline. The waterfront homes surrounding the lake and the recreational use of the water have made it the defining feature of the community since its completion.
A place where families gather to swim, boat and fish together is also where they think about the people they protect. Life insurance coverage sized to your household's actual needs—a mortgage amount, years until children are independent, income replacement—turns the security of those gatherings from a feeling into a concrete plan.
